How Bulls Have Been Handled
1. At birth, bulls were vaccinated for Clostridial disease and
IBR, PI3. Bulls were vaccinated at 3-4 months of age for
BVD, BRSV, IBR, PI3, Leptospirosis, H. Somnus, and
Clostridial disease. At weaning, bulls were boostered for
the same, plus received a Pasteurella vaccine and were
dewormed. They were dewormed going on test and at the
56-day weight.
2. Bulls were not creep fed at any point and were weaned
on forages with no grain. After a short adjustment period
following weaning, they all began test. ET bulls are so noted
in the sale book and were raised on recipient dams.
3. Bulls began the 110-day test on August 7, 2012. The
majority of the bulls were fenceline weaned on alfalfa and
Bermuda grass pasture and continued to limit graze for
several weeks. Late summer they were started on a high
roughage ration consisting largely of corn/sorghum silage,
fruit and vegetable by-products, dried distillers grain, and
corn gluten feed. They also had free choice Bermuda hay.
Our target average daily gain for the test was 3.25 pounds
per day. They have had plenty of exercise and are not fat.
4. Bulls were scanned for ultrasound measurements by Andy
Meadows, DVM, a B.I.F. and AAA CUP certified technician
from Springwood Livestock Management Systems in
Wytheville, VA.
5. All bulls were given a complete breeding soundness exam
by Dr. Jeff Nordin and Dr. Joel Riley from Saluda, S.C.
in January 2013. Bulls were given booster vaccinations,
including modified-live IBR, PI3, BVD, and BRSV; Vibrio and
5-way Lepto; 7-way Clostridials, and H. Somnus. They were
dewormed with Pour-On Eprinex.

Ultrasound Data
We have been using ultrasound technology since 1995 and are
providing you with adjusted yearling ultrasound measurements
as well as carcass EPDs. The ultrasound data represents some
of the most unbiased data in all of the Angus database. All
scans are sent directly to an authorized lab where images taken
by certified technicians are evaluated and interpreted by trained
personnel. The full animal model is used in the genetic evalua-
tion of ultrasound data which means both the sire and dam are
accounted for, unlike with carcass progeny testing where most
steers evaluated are produced from dams of unknown genetic
merit. To most accurately evaluate our yearling bulls from a
carcass standpoint, use the Carcass EPDs and adjusted yearling
measurements. Ratios for adjusted measurements are not
printed in the sale book as the bulls do come from several dif-
ferent weaning contemporary groups and are ratioed within that
group, rather than within the whole test group. Please ask if you
have any questions about the use of ultrasound data or EPDs.
