LOT NUMBERS
The lot numbers in the sale catalog
correspond to the numbers on the ear tags of the
bulls selling. Commercial heifers have individual num-
bered ear tags that will be announced when heifers
are in the ring to sell. For more information on com-
mercial heifers see page 107.
HEIFER BULLS
Bulls marked heifer bulls (upper right
hand corner of each bull lot) are suitable to use on first
calf heifers.
NAME OF ANIMAL
Female lots are named after their
dam. Names of bulls are directly related to their sires.
Animals with the name Ultrablack®are not purebred
Brangus. Ultrablacks are derivatives of registered
Brangus x registered Angus; or Ultrablack x
Ultrablack; or registered Brangus or registered Angus
x Ultrablack. Ultrablacks are defined as Angus x
Brangus and black in color. Ultrablacks are either 1/8
Angus: 7/8 Brangus or 12.5 percent Angus: 87.5 per-
cent Brangus and 7/8 Angus: 1/8 Brangus or 87.5
percent Angus: 12.5 Brangus. Buyers will be mailed
IBBA (Brangus, Ultrablack and Percentage bulls),
American Angus Association (Angus) or American
International Charolais Association (Charolais) regis-
tration papers on all bull lots sold except those lots
marked as commercial bulls.
BIRTHWEIGHT
is actual birth weight of the bull.
WEANING AND YEARLINGWEIGHTS
are adjusted to
205 days (weaning weight) and 365 days (yearling
weight or scan date weight). Some weights listed are
not adjusted and are actual weights.
AGE OF DAM
is the age of the bull’s mother when
she calved.
Rump fat, rib fat, IMF and REA/cwt listed are actual ultra-
sound measurements taken by Donnie Robertson in
November 2011, March 2012 and August 2012. The meas-
urements are not adjusted for age.
RUMP FAT
is an early developing fat tissue. It’s often
referred to it as the “breeding pad,” a protective fat
Mother Nature put in place for mating, making the
process more comfortable for both bull and cow
alike. Rump fat can be used to identify potentially
lower maintenance animals.
RIB FAT
(also called fat thickness or backfat) is an
external fat measurement taken between the 12th
and 13th ribs. It is measured in inches.
IMF
Intramuscular fat (IMF) is measured as a percent
of fat. Percent IMF is an indicator trait for marbling.

Ribeye area per hundred weight is calcu-
lated in square inches of ribeye area per 100 pounds
of weight (cwt) at the time of ultrasound.

EPDs:
EPD is a tool for producing better cattle, but
EPD alone will not produce better cattle. In fact, the
use of EPD alone for selection can actually create
negative progress in other traits, as there are a multi-
tude of important traits for which there are no EPD
values.
