1 Welcome We would like to welcome you to our 23rd Annual Open House and Private Treaty Kickoff Sale. It was about a year ago we started to hear about COVID-19. Little did we know it was going to change things as much as it has. Hopefully, with the vaccine coming out, we can kind of get back to normal- whatever normal is anymore. Both the cattle and grain markets have taken some big swings this year, but they both look promising at this point. Every year we have new challenges, nobody has said the cattle business is easy. I can’t wait to see what 2021 has in store for us! We are very proud of our cows, this year we had 40 cows qualify for the Dam of Merit program. That is 8th in the nation. Of the 35,643 active cows in the Gelvieh breed only 2,025 cows or 5.7% qualified as Dam of Merit, with only 399 cows or 1.1% qualified as Dam of Distinction. We had 13 Dam of Distinc- tions and 23 Dam of Merits, that is 50% of our eligible cows. One half of the bulls in the offering are out of these cows. We will be offering 36 bulls this year, including purebreds and Balancers, red and black (several ho- mozygous black by pedigree or DNA) and 100% polled (several homozygous polled by pedigree). The bulls were weaned in September after summer on grass with their mamas and they were not creep feed. The bulls have gained very well, with several gaining over 4 lbs. on a ration designed for a 3 lbs/day gain. The bulls have been DNA tested, having genomic en- hanced EPD’s. They have a negative BVD-PI3 test. The bulls will be semen tested by Dr. Wulf and will carry a first season guarantee. There will be a link to the bull videos on our website gelbviehbulls.com.
