Welcome to the Star G Ranch complete Dispersal. Come early, bring the
family, enjoy the city of Canton, attend the Star G Sale and go to the world famous
First Monday Trade Days. You will find really good Brangus Cattle and more unique trade
goods than you can imagine.
As many of you know, the Gandy’s sold their nursery business in 2003. Their noncompete
agreement has expired and as a family they have made the decision to reenter the nursery
business. Dennis has already acquired and built a retail and wholesale location in Dallas, and
Nick is in the process of revamping the nursery and putting in plants at their Ben Wheeler
location. Nick has made the decision to devote full time to the nursery enterprise and to
disperse the registered Brangus cattle.
The Gandy family has been an active participant in the Brangus breed
since 2004. They assembled a really nice set of working cows over those
years. They have owned some of the top donors in the breed over that
period of time including 415G, 415K15, 240K4 and 607K18, the dam
of Blackhawk, and have bred them to the top sires in the breed. They
have also identified superior genetics within their program such as 355H
and 135N. This dispersal marks an opportunity to own the fruits of their
labors.
With the tremendous drought conditions that existed last year, they have
kept only the top young cows in the herd. The legendary donors were
either sold in last year’s sale or shipped as their productive and useful
time had passed. You will be buying the cutting edge products of their
ET program as weaned calves as well as the 2 year old and yearling
heifers that were meant as replacements. Because of the drought, all the
heifers were early weaned and shipped to the feedlot. They have not been
exposed to a bull in the feedlot setting and will sell open.
The reduced numbers of the cowherd remained on the ranch and have been exposed to one
of the top young herd sires in the breed, Stonewall. Everyone who has seen the Stonewall
calves has raved about their consistent depth of rib, bone, looseness and uniformity. He
produces fewer throwaways and more salable product. You will have the opportunity to
purchase Stonewall, and his get and service in this dispersal.
Please look closely at the genetics offered in this dispersal and consider the long term
breeding merit that germplasm represents. This is not a coddled set of registered cows but
one that has earned their keep and only the top cut remain. Again welcome to the sale.
