Every year I start this letter
with What a Year! What an
understatement.
First week in January my
favorite get away place, the
historic Triangle burnt down not
to re-open (still in mourning).
To the last week in December
my best friend Pup had to be put
down after being together for
14 years. You are lucky in life to
have a good cow dog and I had one! The rest of the year between weather
and the political elections it did not make the year any better.
From the best of times to the worst of times seems to describe the
weather and cattle markets. One thing is for certain we are no virgins in
the cattle world and are bull headed enough to stick it out. We are going
into excellent times in the livestock industry. Cattle numbers are at record
lows and the packing industry can’t find enough lean cows and bulls to fill
the demand. Those with inventory are going to be well rewarded.
All the packers and feedlots are talking red meat yields, gain ability,
feed conversion even the Academia found a new word Herterosis (ah,
crossbreeding). With top prices paid for cattle with bone and muscle,
instead of color of the hair. Now is the time to sell pounds!
In our 35th annual sale, one item remains constant - uniformity
translates into profitability. Our top end runs deeper into the sale each
year. The main reason is our ruthless female culling for calving ability,
fertility performance, and carcass traits. Go through the sale lots and take
note of all the young cows producing top individuals. Our cow base can
offer you cattle balanced in all traits, from birth to consumer.
We are confident in our offering, and invite your closest scrutiny of
our whole operation. Our operation includes a computerized record
system, feed operation, and of course cow herd and herd sire battery. We
know it is a busy time of the year and will do all we can to assist buyers
on feeding and shipping arrangements: whatever will work for you. We
also have all sales lots on video and DV Auction will have the sale live
on the internet. If you cannot be here, we can help with you purchases,
satisfaction guaranteed or you do not own them, no hassles.
