Dear Friends and Valued Customers,
Welcome to the 2013 Carcass Plus Bull Sale. If you are unable to attend this year’s sale
you may bid online at DV Auction or leave a bid with one of the owners. We strive to
produce bulls for you that will produce calves that will be profitable for all segments of the
beef industry. Fertile, functional cows that produce a vigorous, healthy calf to weaning and
do it year in and year out are the foundation of our herds and are the foundation for
profitability for you.
It has been a long time coming and we are happy to have the new Poland Angus Ranch
Activity Center available for this year’s sale. I am certain that you will enjoy the new
addition as much as we will.
We will retain one-half (1/2) revenue sharing semen interest in all bulls selling in this year’s
sale. The purchaser gets full possession and 100% salvage value of the purchased bull.
We have worked diligently to identify carriers of the AM, NH and CA genetic defects and
remove them from the breeding herd. All bulls offered in this sale are tested free of the
genetic defects or have no known carriers in their pedigree as determined by the American
Angus Association.
This year’s sale will include consignments from CB Farms owned by Berry and Carla
Bortz, and Rolling Hills Cattle Co. owned by Paul and Heather Smith. Tim Marshall has
decided to sell his Gelbvieh and Balancer bulls at Private Treaty from his home operation
in Medicine Lodge. If you need Gelbvieh or Balancer influence in your breeding program, I
recommend giving Tim a call at 620-887-1044.
We have done everything we know how to do to assure you a high quality product. All the
bulls have been ultrasound measured for carcass merit, passed a stringent semen and
breeding soundness exam, tested negative for Persistently Infected BVD, vaccinated to
prevent BVD, PI3, BRSV, Blackleg, Heamophalous Somnus, Vibriosis and Leptospirosis,
performance evaluated and fed in such a manner as to help insure a long, productive
breeding life.
We are glad that you have selected our sale for your next great herd bulls. If you have any
questions, please let us know so that we can help you select the bull or bulls that will move
your breeding program in the direction that you have selected. The bulls will be at Poland
Angus Ranch a few weeks prior to the sale so if you want to look them over at your leisure,
please give me a call or just drop by.
One exciting highlight from last year was the sale of PAR B Power Kat 610 to Steve
Stratford. This fall yearling son of Final Answer promises to be a calving ease bull with
exceptional growth. His first calves here have the look of real performance calves, thick
topped with a good butt. Steve used Power Kat on some heifers, so we will know if he is
the real deal calving ease that we hoped he would be. If you are interested in semen, let
me know.
In last year’s letter, I said “Bring on 2012. Be careful what you wish for, you might get it.”
We got it and it was not all we had hoped it would be. The drought continues and that has
caused all of us to make some decisions that we did not like but were necessary. Like
most of you, we have reduced cow numbers to ease pressure on feed resources. Although
a lot of good cows have gone to town, the cows that remain are the cream of the crop and
we will be better off, genetically, in the future. The bulls in this year’s sale are, in my
opinion, the best set of bulls ever offered, as we have culled deeper than ever before to
assure that you have superior genetics for your herd.
Join us on Tuesday evening for a complimentary supper and let’s talk cattle. Come early to
look over the sale offering. Supper will be at dark or dusk thirty.
Sincerely, Richard G. Poland
