Greetings from the Mushrush family,
The past year has driven home some hard lessons about the value of having heat tolerant cattle
that can get by with low inputs. The state of our industry is no secret. With the lowest cow
inventory in over 60 years the cow-calf segment is going to be in the driver’s seat when (not if)
it rains. Cattle Fax estimates that the average price for a 750# steer in 2013 will be $155 cwt.
550# steers are expected to average $175 and moisture could spike them above $200!* Now,
more than ever Mushrush Red Angus is positioning ourselves and our customers for a very
successful future.
For the first time we summered our 18 month old bulls on native pasture. We saw a marked
improvement in herd health despite the hot dry weather. Our cowherd has some of the highest
Stayablity numbers and some of the lowest Maintenance Energy in the Red Angus breed. We
continue to demand the absolute best from our cows and keep culling pressure intense.
Our 2013 sale offering is stacked with genetics that will make you profitable. Most notably we
are offering a large number of 18 month old Impressive and Lock ‘N’ Load bulls. Over 70% of
the bulls in our sale have a CED in the top 20% of the breed while still maintaining adequate
growth.
In addition to the very deep set of bulls, we are offering a mix of females. There are open
yearlings as well as bred fall heifers. For the first time ever we are also selling spring first calf
pairs. This is a great opportunity to beat the “heifer rush” that will be coming very shortly as
cow herds repopulate.
We look forward to seeing you at the sale on March 28
th
.
We are here to help you with
whatever questions you have as you make your genetic decisions. Feel free to stop by the
ranch and look at our program anytime. Videos of all lots will be available for viewing prior to
sale day. Go to our web site
for a link. As usual, if you can’t
make it sale day you can leave bids. The sale will be broadcast live on DVAuction.
We thank you for your business and wish you a prosperous 2013.
The Mushrush family
