PERFORMANCE DATA AS AN AID IN LIVESTOCK SELECTION...
2
Molitor Angus is dedicated to providing honest and accurate performance data to their customers. All of the EPDs
listed in this catalog are official American Angus Association EPDs calculated by Angus Herd Improvement Records
(AHIR) and are current as of the date of this catalog printing. Scrotal measurements will be on the performance
update sheet available sale day.
What is an EPD?
The Expected Progeny Difference (EPD) is the increase or decrease
in performance for a given trait that you can expect from the prog-
eny of an animal compared to breed average. EPDs are expressed
in pounds as a plus (+) or minus (-) figure.
What makes EPDs so valuable?
EPDs take into consideration the performance of the individual as
well as the performance of relatives and progeny, and the within-
herd ratios of contemporary progeny groups. They also factor out
the management and environmental differences that may exist
between herds. EPDs can accurately be used to compare bulls in
different herds within the breed.
It is important to select for EPD traits that match your operational
goals. If you are looking for a bull to use on virgin heifers, birth
weight EPD is a primary consideration. If you keep or sell replace-
ment heifers, milk EPD is a major factor. If your calves are sold at
weaning time with no replacement females retained, then weaning
EPD is of vital importance. Those of you who background your
calves should concentrate on yearling weight EPD. Many times
a balance in all traits is required, depending on your individual
situation.
It is important to understand that EPDs are accompanied by accu-
racy values and may fluctuate up or down as accuracy increases.
In addition to the below stated guarantee, all cattle sell under the Suggested Sale Terms

or refund the purchase price.
The return of the full purchase price shall in any case be deemed full satisfaction

Why so much emphasis on bulls?
Bulls have the greatest economic impact on any breeding pro-
gram, thus bull selection is one of the most important decisions and
investments that a cowman makes during the course of a year.
A bull sires 20 to 40 calves each year while a cow produces half
or less this many offspring in her lifetime. For the most part, herd
improvement comes from bulls.
It’s been estimated that 80% of herd improvement is directly at-
tributed to bull selection.
With the volume of cattle in this sale,
you’ll find a quality animal to fit any
budget. The cattle in this sale will
sell in realistic price ranges that the
commercial cowman can afford.
Whether your bull budget is $2000,
$3000, or more, you’ll get the most
performance and value for your bull
buying dollar.
