PERFORMANCE RATIOS
Being a performance herd, ratios are very important in evaluating
our cattle. 205-day and 365-day adjusted weights on an
individual animal have very little meaning in a herd unless that
animal’s weights can be compared to the other individuals in the
calf crop. Ratios do that comparison. For example: a ratio of 100
is average, 105 is 5% above average, 95 is 5% below average.
It should be noted that lower than average ratios on an animal
does not necessarily mean that he or she is inferior. Instead, it
may be that the animal’s true growth performance was robbed,
so to speak, by factors such as health problems. Also, the amount
of fill that an animal has on weigh dates will cause a slight
difference for comparison between individuals.
However, we feel that individuals with consistently high ratios
are quite superior because they have been exposed to the same
adverse circumstances as their mates but have excelled above
the rest.
The yearling bulls have average 205-
day adj. weights of 586 lbs. Therefore:
WR 95 = (.95x586) =557# 205 D-Wt.
WR 100 = 586# 205 D-WT.
WR 102 = ( 1.02 x 586) = 598#
WR 105 = ( 1.05 x 586) = 615#
WR 110 = ( 1.10 x 586) = 645#
WR 120 = ( 1.20 x 586) = 703#
The yearling bulls have average 365-day
adj. weights of 1120 lbs. Therefore:
YR 95 = ( .95 x 1120) = 1064# 365 D-Wt.
YR 100 = 1120# 365 D-Wt.
YR 102 = (1.02 x 1120) = 1142#
YR 105 = (1.05 x 1120) = 1176#
