• After six hours of going through the pens a week before the sale,
Dad and I walked away wanting one bull, Connealy Sandhills. So the
following week Dad and John went down there to get John’s opinion
and he also felt he was the next great herd sire to roam our pastures.
• So a few days later I got this text message from a friend and all it
said was “I found the next great one.” Not knowing he was down at
Connealy’s, I quickly called him to find out which bull this was, and
he said it is that Dash son at Connealy’s.
• Sandhills when you first saw him, you said WOW. He stuck out like
a sore thumb. He was incredibly thick and walked right in his tracks.
His front feet never curled at all and he was super docile. The more
we studied him the more we liked him. So then we took the list of
bulls that we liked to Jerry Connealy and asked him what their moth-
ers were like. He said Sandhills’ mom was a good one, she has a
good udder, deep-bodied and was an incredible female which only
made Sandhills look better yet. And Jerry is honest as they come.
Sandhills was the most impressive yearling bull to sell that day, sell-
ing for $50,000 to Accelerated Genetics and Mohnen Angus. We feel
he is the best bull we have ever evaluated at Connealy’s.
• We will not be getting a lot of Sandhill calves next spring as he just
cleaned up 100 yearling heifers and kept his muscling and flesh really
well.
• He will be one of the most heavily used sires here next spring with
South Dakota, Long Distance and Heartrate.
