Mill Bar Angus health management program focuses on completeness. It has been designed to protect
its customers against the major preventable problems they might face in today’s cattle industry.
All cattle in this sale have been vaccinated at weaning against 7-way blackleg, Haemophilus somnus,
BRSV, IBR, BVD, P13 and Pasteurella. A modified live respiratory booster (Bovisheld 5) was also given. All
heifers have been official calfhood vaccinated. Internal and external parasites were treated with Noromectin
Pour-on and injected with Dectomax.
Mill Bar Angus continues to incorporate the concept into its sale again this year called the “ear notch
IHC test” or “PI testing.” A small notch of skin was taken from every heifer and bull and tested to identify
any cattle persistently infected with BVD. No cattle have ever been found positive at Mill Bar. This is a very
important herd security practice that will help eliminate these problem cattle from herds and the transmis-
sion of BVD. The bottom line is these heifers and bulls will be healthier and their calves and your herd will
be too!
At the time of testing the heifers, we also gave them a Pre-Guard FP10 vaccination. This vaccination,
along with the testing, will give the most up-to-date protection against BVD that technology has to offer.
They are absolutely ready to go into your breeding program.
I think that Mick’s herd health program shows that not only is he committed to offering his customers
quality cattle, he is offering other economic benefits “up front” to help his customers be successful in the
business.
