Glossary of the Sale
FERTILITY TESTED
- Definition: Bulls’ semen has been
tested by a licensed veterinarian or a recognized A.I. breed-
ing center and is considered a satisfactory breeder as per
the accompanying signed veterinarian certificate.
HEALTH PAPERS
- Definition: Proper health papers fur-
nished on all animals in the sale resulting from T.B. and
Bangs test.
a. T.B. Test
- Animals have been tested for T.B. and found
negative within thirty (30) days of the sale, both males
and females with the exception of young calves or from a
TB-free state.
b. BANGS TEST
- Animals have been tested by licensed
veterinarian and have met the requirements for a negative
test of the state in which animals sells. This includes all
males and females except those exempted from this test
due to age, calfhood vaccination, or certified Brucellosis
free herd status.
BREEDER
- The owner or lessee of the dam at the time the
dam was served to produce the calf.
OWNER
- The individual partnership, or corporation in
whose name an animal is registered.
HORNED
- Those animals with hard, bony projections from
their head. May be surgically removed or dehorned.
POLLED
- Those animals that are genetically hornless. They
have at least one copy of the polled gene. Animals with
both parents polled that have been tested and found not
to be homozygous are not listed double polled, but simply
polled.
DOUBLE POLLED
- Those animals that result from two
polled parents and have not been DNA-tested.
Homozygous polled
- Individual has been DNA-tested
to be genetically “PP” or proven by parentage to be homo-
zygous thus not carrying the “p” horned gene by pedigree
or DNA test.
PUREBRED
- Those animals that are 94% or more Limousin.
a. American Purebred
- Those upgraded purebreds that
are 94% or greater Limousin, and 6% or less other breed as
indicated by the breed codes. Registration numbers begin-
ning NPM (North American Purebred Male) and NPF (North
American Purebred Female).
b. Fullblood
- Those purebred that are from 100% or full
French ancestry. They have registration numbers beginning
with NFM (North American Fullblood Male) and NFF (North
American Fullblood Female).
Homozygous Black
- DNA-tested by and found to be
homozygous black or genotype ED/ED or both parents were
DNA-tested homozygous.
Double Black
- This notation is made in the catalog to
indicate animals with both parents black in color. These
animals have NOT been DNA-tested. Animals with both
parents black that have been tested and found to be red
carriers are not listed as double black, but simply as
“black.”
LIM-FLEX
- Denotes the Limousin-Angus hybrid that may
vary in composition from 25-75% Limousin and 25-75%
Angus or Red Angus with a maximum allowance of other
breed or unknown genetics of 12.5%.

- Expected Progeny Difference - A user friendly way of
summarizing performance information for quick reference.

most recent calf crop recorded with NALF.
