Ellingson Angus 2013 Production Sale Catalog
It’s an exciting time to be in the cattle industry! I realize that last
summer’s dry conditions presented challenges for many of you, like us,
but it now appears that moisture levels are getting back to normal and
we can look forward to excellent times ahead in the cattle business. With
record-low cattle numbers, we can expect to see an expansion phase that
will push the market for good females even higher. We are already be-
ginning to witness high genetic-merit heifer calves capturing as much
revenue as their steermates.
It’s rewarding to see our customers’ growing success. We are happy to
see the performance advances many are making by utilizing Elling-
son Angus genetics. We always strive to ensure that your sale day is
treated as important as ours. It is with all of us working together that
we can accomplish the most.
We have expanded our cow inventory, yet continue to be extremely
discerning to make sure that only the best females stay a part of our
program. We demand production merit and the fundamental traits.
We realize the importance of calf vigor, superior udders, feet and legs,
disposition and fleshing ability, and will not sacrifice these basic traits to enhance the calculated
values. We know that cattle that lack the fundamentals usually will never achieve their full genetic poten-
tial.
As with each of your operations, our ranch was filled with much activity over the past year. We have had
the privilege to welcome many of our long-time customers and producers from around the globe to the
ranch as visitors. In addition, I also spent some time in Kazakhstan to assist the producers who have pur-
chased our purebred females put on the first production sale ever held in that country. We look forward
to continuing to cultivate both domestic and international markets to enhance value for everyone using
Ellingson Angus genetics.
I am grateful to my family for all of their passion and hard work in making Ellingson Angus function 365
days a year. Our ranch is truly a family operation, where all the responsibilities of calving to marketing
and haying to fencing are accomplished with their help and that of our hired man, Seb, who is like family
to us. Despite their age, our children play a vital role in our operation. Their excitement in this industry
drives us to work to ensure Ellingson Angus’ long-term success. I am confident that Ellingson Angus
will be a program you can plan on doing business with for future generations. We are also grateful to
our parents, Martin and Angie Schaff and Lester, Jr., and Cheryll Ellingson, for their counsel and support
throughout the year.
Thanks to everyone who has invested in our program in the past, and welcome to those who are inter-
ested in learning more about what Ellingson Angus can do for your operation. You can be assured that,
when you invest in the Ellingson program, you are investing in more than just a bull or heifer. We want to
get to know you and your program and make you part of the Ellingson V.I.P. Club!
If you have any questions, feel free to stop out at the ranch or give us a call at (701) 445-7309 or (701) 361-
3606.
We hope to see you on Feb. 2!
