Welcome back to our sale facility at Meridian for our annual Double Creek spring female sale. Last year
we began sharing this first weekend of March with Evans Farms for a circuit of Texas Angus sales, and
we both had a very good reaction from our customers. We are pleased to continue this new tradition in
2013.
We have finally gotten some much needed rain across Texas and the Southwest. Years of drought has
taken its toll on cow numbers in the United States, and the cattle market should remain very strong for
both commercial and registered cattle as grass returns and cow numbers begin to rebuild. While it is
always critical to keep an eye on the price of feed and the weather, with the small number of cattle in the
national herd, this is a great time to add quality to your herd before the increased demand drives prices
even higher. It has happened for centuries and it is going to happen again!
We are offering a powerful set of bred and open heifers. The Lot 1 heifer is at the top of the genetic pile.
We believe that she is what the industry is aiming for as she is an extremely long and deep bodied heifer,
out of one of the current top cows in the breed with genomic-enhanced EPD values that are outstanding
for all the important traits. She is the real deal!
The Lot 2A heifer was our pick of her calf crop for our new granddaughter, and she is a daughter of our
power Rowena cow sired by Consensus 7229. A longer or deeper bodied heifer you will not find. We hope
that you will join us in owning an interest in one of these two great young females that are featured as
Lots 1 and 2A. Like our new granddaughter, they are the future of our program!
We are offering 10 lots of our best ET prospects. Make your selections while they are young and raise
them to fit into your own herd and program. Sired by Upshot, Consensus, Rito 9M25 and Total Impact,
these embryo heifers will have the EPD profile and $Indexes to run with the best!
The bred cows and pairs are from the heart of our herd. We have used some of the top sires in the industry
to breed these females including Upshot, Consensus, Confidence, Rito 9Q13 and Ten X so that the calves
they are carrying can keep our customers at the forefront of the business.
Lot 51 is out of our foundation Blackcap P200 and sired by Raven, and she has an outstanding Upshot
bull calf at side. We raise and sell a lot of bulls. This bull calf is the kind that we like to have on hand to
offer our bull customers.
I was pleased to finish my term as President of the Texas Angus Association with two very successful
sales in Fort Worth. Both the Best of the West Bull Sale and the Stars of Texas Female Sale gave us a
preview of the great things that are coming down the road for quality Angus cattle. There is nothing more
exciting than green grass coming and a short supply of cattle to put it to use!
Thank you for supporting Lone Star Angus, Evans Farm and Double Creek Farms this weekend in Texas.
