Hello fellow Cattlemen, Friends, and Neighbors,
Welcome to the 2013 version of the C-Bar Ranch Bull Sale. As I look back over the past
couple of years and gaze into the near future I feel like we are starting the third season of the series
“Survivor.” Seasoned ranchers have all been through tough years but this many back to back is
historic. I don’t think anyone in this region is in the ranching business by accident. The cattlemen of
today have been planning on the good times on the other side for a while now. Are you ready?
When rebuilding starts quality will come at a high premium. The cost of livestock when
everyone is trying to increase numbers could become staggering. Many of us will have to rebuild
from within, so the foundation we build today will determine much of our success tomorrow. Super
high feed and operating costs have made mistakes very pronounced.
We believe in a “No Fluff” program here at C-Bar Ranch. I think that basics are clear to see.
The #1 ingredient in our bulls development ration this winter has been CRP hay. No grinding or
mixing, just fed free choice in a bale feeder. Consequently the bulls are not as heavy as in past years.
Semen tests have been excellent and we are confident that these bulls will stay solid and extremely
sound as they go to the breeding pastures.
We have a group of fall bulls that I am very proud of. We have developed these bulls at a
modest rate of gain and feel that they are in top shape and weight to perform as breeders this spring.
We will be moving our program more towards this type of offering in future years.
I am so excited about our lot 1 bull, Eldorado. Don’t compare his stats to the other 59 bulls
in the sale since he has been fed totally differently since weaning than they have. Instead compare
him to all the other possible sires in the entire Red Angus Breed. He brings so many positive traits
and in a nearly flawless package. We have had extremely high expectations since first seeing him
as a calf and he hasn’t let us down a single time. His mother has placed another vote of confidence
on the board this month by giving birth to a 64 pound heifer calf by Evolution, our last years sale
topper. Eldorado’s breeding potential appears to have no limits. We will use him heavily this year.
With the old reliable standby, Conquest, a bit of Colt 45, and new excitement from
Anticipation, Contour, and Powerball it will be worth your trip to Brownell Kansas. We also have
some pretty exciting black/red carrier bulls that combine the best genetics from our red and black
gene pools. Please join us for lunch and have great day here on February 28th.
Sincerly,
