Dear Cattleman,
It is a distinct privilege to join Kevin and Denise Olson in the presentation of their 2013
production. It has been obvious to our company for some time that Kevin really understands
that the secret to superior cattle is building on generations of outstanding females. The
foundation dams of the Polly, Forever Lady, Lucy, Beauty, Heather Lass families came to
Big Rok only after intense research into their reproductive merit and lifetime achievement.
After their introduction in the program they continued to be scrutinized while embryo
transplant multiplied their impact on the herd.
Progeny from this outstanding cow herd have run a gauntlet of performance and
ultrasound measures to quantify their potential in your program. Some excel at calving ease, some at performance and carcass
merit. The one thing they all share is the respect and
honest reputation of the Olson family.
Feel free to contact our office or Kevin Olson with
your inquiries and plan to join us for this important
Angus event on March 9th in Detroit Lakes, MN.
Sincerely,
AL & JEANNE CONOVER

Dear Friends and Cattle Producers:
It is with great pleasure that we invite you to our 12
th
Annual Production
Sale. We believe you must have a strong maternal cow herd to have true performance.
True performance is bred in, not fed on!!!
We are now in our fourth year of our switch to late summer/fall calving.
Within two years, we will be 100% fall calving. This will allow us to offer a little
older, more mature bull. We feel by offering 18-20 month old bulls, we can develop
them slower to insure sound breeding bulls. Our goal is for you to like your bulls just as well as three-four year olds as the day
you purchased them.
As you go through our catalog, you will notice many of the bulls are sired by bulls that we have bred and raised. We
believe in our genetics. If a calf doesn’t meet our strict standards to be a bull, he gets steered out. It doesn’t matter what his
pedigree or EPDs are.
The fall yearling bulls were run on grass with 4 pounds of grain all summer. At the end of September, we started feeding
them silage, grass hay, straw, and seven pounds of a grain mix designed to gain 2.5 pounds per day. These bulls have been
developed to be breeding bulls-not fed to gain 4+ pounds like a feedlot steer. The yearling bull calves were weaned at the end
of September and fed exactly the same as the fall yearlings. All of the bulls have been ultra-sounded for carcass traits and had a
complete breeding soundness exam and are guaranteed breeders.
The heifers selling are a cross section out of our replacement pen. They have also been ultra-sounded and guaranteed
breeders. Two of the females are daughters of the Big Rok Polly 858 and it doesn’t get any better than that.
All bulls and heifers will be penned and be ready for viewing on Friday.
2013 promises to be a blessed year for us here at Big Rok as we welcomed Khloe Addison Townsend to our family on
January 7, 2013. And by sale date, Kelli, Jason, Ali and Kaia will also have a new baby at their house.
To our past bidders and buyers, we say “Thank you.” To the people new to Big Rok Angus, we say “Welcome.” You
are all invited to a complimentary homemade lunch before the sale starting at 11:30 a.m.
See you at the Sale!
