It has been four years since David Hubert has consigned
the “Choice of the Herd” from the Hubert Charolais
Ranch cow herd. In fact, the last time he sold this choice
it was right here in Fort Worth in 2009 during the last
National Charolais Sale here. That lot was the Choice of
the Schurrtop HCR Rancher daughters and the late Gilbert
Link took that choice home for $9,500. Prior to that, in the
National Charolais Sales the choice of the HCR herd sold for
$10,500, $13,000, $12,000 and $10,000! Those selections
were purchased by R & K Angus, Sonsteby Charolais, Wright
Charolais and Summit Farms. There is opportunity here
within this selection.
2012
finds the Hubert Charolais Ranch herd in its 54th
year of purebred breeding. There are 140 mature females
in this high quality herd, including 42 daughters of Rancher,
25
daughters of LT Western Edge and 10 Wyoming Wind
daughters. The 60 plus yearling polled heifers are also
included in this choice. In the last seven years 460 bulls have
been sold at auction during the annual HCR Bull Sale for an
average of $3,554. The dams of those bulls comprise this
selection.
The seller would like this “Choice of the Herd” to be
completed by May 1, 2013.

Persistence can lead to success!
After years of trying to persuade Oak Hill Farms to consign
the “Pick of the Herd” to the National Sale, it will finally
happen in Fort Worth, Texas! Oak Hill Farms and the
Wayne Bennett family have a small and exclusive elite herd
of Charolais cattle. They have a definite breeding program
which “Focus on the Family” and is built around one of the
most proven cows EVER in the Charolais breed – JWK
Vanessa D029 ET. D029 and her daughters have been
crossed with proven Charolais sires to stack as many great
proven cows into their pedigree as time has allowed in the
Oak Hill program. Vanessa D029 is now deceased and there
are no more embryos to put in. Over 100 progeny have been
registered from her.
Oak Hill has only sold a donor cow or two in the National
Sale before, including a Wyoming Wind x D029 three year
old female for $16,500 in the Louisville, Kentucky National
in 2007. But, this time the buyer will be able to pick any
female they want from the Oak Hill herd. Charolais Journal
fieldman Floyd Wampler has been quite helpful with Wayne
developing the Oak Hill herd, so give either of them a call to
discuss the options that are available in this exciting selection.
