Using the A&B Performance Records
Performance Records are measures of individual weights and
measurements taken at various times in an animal's life:
(ACT. BW) Birth Weight
- the actual weight of a calf measured at birth.
(ADJ. 205) Adjusted Weaning Weight
- the weaning weight of an animal
adjusted to a common age of 205 days.
(ADJ. 365) Adjusted Yearling Weight
- the yearling weight of an animal
adjusted to a common age of 365 days.
(10/31 WT.) Actual Wt. Recorded on 10/31/12
- the on-test weight re-
corded before the bulls went on feed test on our ranch. A high roughage
ration consisting of ground hay and wet distillers by-product was fed to
the bulls to insure an adequate gain of about 3.25 lbs. per day while stay-
ing in good, athletic condition. Adjusted weaning weights are based on
this weight.
(2/14 WT.) Actual Wt. Recorded on 2/14/13
- the off-test weight. Ad-
justed yearling weights are based on this weight.
(GAIN) Average Daily Gain
- a computation of the average daily gain es-
tablished by the bulls during the 105 day feed test.
(ADJ. HIP) Adjusted Yearling Hip Height
- a measure in inches taken at
the hip at a given time and can be adjusted to a common age of 365 days.
This figure can be translated into a frame score. An adjusted hip height of
48.8 inches = Frame Score 5; 51.0 inches = Frame Score 6; and 53.0 =
Frame Score 7.
$Values
- are multi-trait selection indexes expressed in dollars per head,
to assist commercial beef producers by adding simplicity to genetic se-
lection decisions. A $Value has meaning only when used in comparison
to the $Value of another animal. For example, just as with EPDs, varia-
tion in $Values between animals indicates average expected differences
in the relative value of progeny if random mating is assumed and the
calves are exposed to the same environment.
($W)eaning
- the expected average difference in future progeny perfor-
mance based on four primary economic impact areas: birthweight, wean-
ing weight, maternal milk, and mature cow size compared to the progeny
of other sires.
($F)eedlot
- the expected average difference in future progeny perfor-
mance for postweaning performance compared to progeny of other sires.
($B)eef
- the expected average difference in future progeny performance
for post weaning and carcass value compared to progeny of other sires.
The $B value combines the contributions of feedlot and grid values.
(WWR) Dam’s Nursing Ratio -
provided on dams as a measure of their
calves average weaning weight ratios. Those dams with a tattoo number
in their name in the 0000 series were first calf heifers when that bull was
born.
AVAILABLE SALE DAY and on our web site
and prior to sale day:
Actual Scrotal Circumference
- a testicle measurement in centimeters
taken by Dr. Chris Finney, Ainsworth Veterinary Clinic, at the time fertility
testing is done. Any unsatisfactory bulls are eliminated from the sale of-
fering.
Ultrasound Data and Updated Carcass EPDs
- will be available after March
15, 2013 on the yearling bulls only.
We make every attempt to provide the most meaningful and accurate
information available on each and every bull. Although there are more
EPDs and $Values available on each animal, we try to highlight the
most valuable information for cow/calf producers. Registration num-
bers are provided on each bull for easy access to American Angus As-
sociation records. Please contact us if you have any further questions
about the bulls or their dam’s performance data.
